Project North Star Deck X is an open-source developer kit with easy Unity and SteamVR integration. It’s our modified version of the Project North Star v3.2 headset, and also our last 3D-printed product before we start producing injection-molded kits. 

With the Intel® RealSense™ Tracking Module T261 as 6-DOF sensor and Ultraleap’s Leap Motion Controller hand-tracking sensor packed under one lid, the Deck X is more compact than our previous modified versions. It also comes with the Integrator, our custom-built USB Hub System with Integrated Arduino, Flash Drive, and built-in programmable buttons. The buttons can do whatever you want—but come pre-programmed for adjusting optical ergonomics factors, like IPD and eye position relative to the lenses.

The most exciting part about the Integrator, though, might be that it brings down the use of cables down from 4 to just 2! Not only does that reduce the number of USB ports used on your computer, it greatly reduces the weight of the cable bundle hanging off the back of your head. And, to be frank, it also just looks a lot less janky!

Our Deck X kits, as well as other Project North Star kits & components, are currently available on the Smart Prototyping webshop. If you already own a Project North Star v3.1, you can also opt for our upgrade or rebuild kit instead of buying a whole new headset!
