The Deck X is CombineReality’s modified version of Project North Star headset, with capabilities and design based on the latest available version: Project North Star 3.2. With the Intel T261 6-DOF sensor and Ultraleap’s Leap Motion Controller hand-tracking sensor packed under one lid, it’s more compact and easier to build compared to our previous Project North Star modifications.
On top of that—also the most important part—we’ve added the Integrator, our custom-built hub system with a plethora of features that make it much more than just a hub:
- USB 3.1 hub
- High-speed USB 3 mass storage device
- Integrated Arduino-compatible microcontroller (Atmega 32u4)
- 5V PWM fan control circuit
- Power for individual USB ports and mass storage subsystem are switchable via Arduino GPIO
- Two USB 3 and one USB 2 low profile ribbon connectors
- Ribbon adapters for Intel RealSense T261 and Leap Motion Controller
- Customizable buttons-programmed by default for easy ergonomics adjustment (IPD and headset positioning)
The hub has been taking us much longer than expected to create, modify, and bring to perfection. But we’re almost there! The Deck X upgrade kit (from Project North Star 3.1), DIY kit, 3D-printed parts, and other components will be available on the Smart Prototyping website soon!
